March 2019

Shooting Vicki and Sean’s elopement at Sapphire point was certainly a wedding for the books! If anyone can recall March of 2019 in Colorado, it was known for record breaking number of avalanches. In just the first week of March there were over 346 that were reported. What does this mean for a wedding photographer who has an elopement planned for the next morning? First, mini-panic…but for real through! As all the scenarios played out in my mind, I had to determine what was best for Vivki and Sean and also safe for me.

Luckily, Grandma Mary came to the rescue. I continued to watch the weather closely, as well checking hotel availability.  As the weather proceeded to get worse, I was very worried I could start my venture to Dillon and then get stuck on I-70. I decided I would head up EARLY in the morning. Even with an extremely early departure planned, the traffic was in single digits in at times.

As I continued to keep my couple in the loop, I finally arrived 3.5 hours later. Whew, talk about a drive! The good news, I arrived in plenty of time. Vicki was still working on her hair and makeup and Sean was just finishing up. Vicki’s best friend Andrew helped Vicki into her dress and we got her up to Sapphire point.

The snow was so deep, guests were literally pulling me out of drifts, but the shots were worth it. Following their ceremony Vicki and Sean went to a local Dillion restaurant, the Silverheels Bar and Grill. The food was delicious and the staff was so accommodating.
