I absolutely left a piece of my heart in Madeira.

After becoming a mom, I have poured everything into everyone else. Every ounce of energy. All the planning. Every priority. And while I wouldn’t trade that season for anything, my soul quietly started whispering: What about you?

Madeira was my answer. Motherhood didn’t erase me. It refined me. Now, travel didn’t pull me away from my life — it brought me back to it. My true love of photography and so much more.

Why This Trip Meant More Than Just Travel

This wasn’t just another destination. It was my restoration. It was symbolic to me for so many reasons.

As a Portugal photographer, I came for the landscapes. Beautiful light. The textures of the mountains with the ocean. The story. And of course the most AMAZING photography workshop I could have imagined (more about that in future posts). Before I left, I found clarity. In myself and in my photography.

Photographing Madeira is unlike anywhere else in Portugal. The island light is softer, it's almost cinematic. The mist rolls in and out like a living thing. The greens are richer. The blues much deeper.

Every frame I shot felt intentional. They had such true meaning.

Lastly, the people. I cannot rave enough about their pride for the island of Madeira. Their joy is genuine, their hospitality effortless, and their happiness unlike anything I’ve experienced elsewhere.

It’s different. It’s grounding. And mostly, it is contagious!
